This Rain!!!

Hey, guess what! It's raining!! Who would have guessed, huh? Boy, it's been raining for almost 2 weeks straight, ever since we got here. With thundering and lightening mixed in. One almost has to wonder if the heavens above is trying to tell us something. We thought perhaps the sky has finally lightened up, 'cause there was a little bit of sunshine earlier this morning. But alas it was only a tease. Quickly it started to pour again, with thunders following not far behind.

We met up with Tunji's friend from school, Tim Jachna and his wife. Tim teaches design in the HK Polytechnical Institute, quite a reputable school. He has been teaching there for about 3 years and seems to like it very much. His wife is a sweet and cute young lady from Thailand. When we met for dinner, she was exhausted from having just finished and defended her dissertation for her PhD the week before. It was such a pleasure meeting the two of them. She's such a charming young lady with a focused passion for good eating! It was very funny, all of our conversations eventually all leading back to eating and food. Certainly someone whom I can get along with VERY well.

Yesterday Tunji and I went to talk to a couple of people from The Fringe Club to see if there were any volunteer/work possibilities, but mostly just to make a connection. The administrator there, Catherine Lau, seems very friendly and "on the ball". It was nice of her to take time out to meet two complete strangers with no specific agenda in mind. But through our conversation with her, I found out that there is a HK Youth Arts Festival, and a name and number to connect with. Perhaps there might be something I can help out there.

Afterwards we checked out The Boheimian, where they have live music. It turned out that half of the same jazz band that we saw at The Gecko was there. Same bass player and guitar player, but different drummer and a piano player. This drummer definitely wasn't as good as the one we saw at The Gecko... the "sub", for crying out loud. As Tunji said, it was a good thing that we saw the other band at The Gecko first, otherwise we would have been rather depressed.

Tomorrow is Sunday and we have mom duty. We will have to come up with something for mom to eat that she'll like and can chew...

Hopefully it'll stop raining next week. I don't know how much longer can I stand this constant rain.
