Hiking!

When we first got here, we had this big amibition that we'll go explore the country parks and go hiking on Thursdays. 'Cause that's the day when Tunji doesn't have to go teach and no rehearsals at night. But as you all very well can tell, we haven't really made it to a single country park just yet!

So, yesterday was Thursday. But since we need to get a few things done before heading up to Shanghai, we thought we'll do that instead. (Another excuse, I know...) We went to the Golden Computer Center in Sham Shui Po, 'cause I wanted to get another memory stick for my camera so we can take lots of pictures without running out of memory space. (That involves another story by the way, but I'll spare you the mundane run around)

Anyway, when we were coming home, Tunji had this bright idea that perhaps we could "hike" back home... as in WALKING! I don't know what came over me, silly and naively, I agreed! Little that I know, not only it took us a little more than an hour to get home, but we had to cut across a big rambling park in the middle of Shek Kip Mei. The park itself was actually pretty cool. It was kept pretty wild and not all concreted over. But the painful part was that we had to walk up hundreds of steps, okay, maybe not HUNDREDS, but A LOT! Plus it was Steep!!! So I'm a wimp, what can I say. At one point, we thought we were lost on top of this hill and weren't sure which direction to take to get back down. Then we remembered the girl scouts rule of thumb when going hiking in the city of Hong Kong: When lost and in emergency situation, just listen to the heart warming purring hum in the distance of the jackhammers. That will surely lead you back to "civilization". :)
