First Gig

My little band Bone Table just had our first gig at The Wanch on Friday. Yes, the bar is finally re-opened, and hopefully it'll stay open as there's really not that many live music venues in Hong Kong, despite the fact that the place is sort of a dive and doesn't really have a very good reputation. Then again, it's one of those age old bars that had been around for many many years and it's in the middle of Wan Chai to boot. So what can you expect, right?

Anyway, we had a fun time playing. Though the first set we were still kind of still and nervous... well, I was at least. But by the second set I was feeling a lot better. And by the third set, it was just plain silliness with Robert pretending to walk out the door in the middle of a song while still playing. But by that time, I've had enough whiskey to loosen up even a dead cat, so it was all good.

In addition to the bass amp falling to the floor in the middle of a song during the first set, my effect box also jumped off from the amp probably from the vibration in the third set. And I wasn't even jumping up and down like I normally would do. Okay, maybe just a little bit of "bouncing"...

Tunji shot some videos, so I will need to go through it and hopefully I'll be able to put something up soon. Check out our band's website. Link provided on the sidebar on right hand side.

Another thing happened that was kind of a bummer was that somehow my wallet was out of my purse and I didn't know it. A friend who came to see the show called us when we were leaving at the end of the night to let us know they found my wallet at the bar. When I got it back, I noticed that all my money was gone. Not too too much money was in there, but enough to buy yourself a very good meal. (a little more than $1000 HK) The only good thing was that none of my credit cards, cash cards or IDs were taken. Which would have been even more of a hassle than losing the money. So whoever took it, I'd like to just think that perhaps (s)he really needed it more than I. And a good lesson learned: never leave your purse unattended, even if you thought your husband was or your friends were guarding it.
