New Digs

Let me tell ya, it's a good thing that everything moves so quickly in this town. Since our return about a week ago, we have been staying at my mom's place. Not even 3 days had passed, my mom had started asking me why are we staying at her house and how long we'll be staying there.

We looked around town for a couple of days, and quickly found a place in Happy Valley. The agent showed us the apartment in the afternoon, we told her we're interested but wanted to negotiate for a better rate. She was able to discuss the matter with the landlord and got back to us before we were able to leave the area. She then told us to stay put and rush back to meet us from her office half way across town and signed the deal by 5pm that afternoon. I think the whole thing took maybe about 3 hours. Then the next day we got the keys to the place. Was that fast, or was that fast?

So yes, we have now moved in. Soon we'll be such expert in moving that I'll be able to do it in my sleep. I'm including some pictures here that I took when we were looking at the place, so there's none of our personal belongings or anything. It's a 1-bedroom furnished apartment about 2 blocks from the racetracks. Horse racetracks that is. So if any of you would like to join us for one of those Wednesday nights races, you'll know where to find us! :)

The good thing about this place is that there are a lot of cupboards and closet space, which is absolutely rare in this town. I think I may even have empty cupboard space in the bedroom!!!! Well, we all know how I should alter that situation! And PRONTO!

The bad thing about this place is that there is absolutely no view to speak of. All the windows look out to other buildings and streets. Unlike this other studio apartment that we saw, it had a FABULOUS view of the whole entire racecourse. Such a treat in this town to look out and see a big patch of green area and open space while everything is so cramped in. However, in addition to the size of that studio apartment was just too small, the burners in the open plan kitchen area only came up to Tunji's knees. We (as in Tunji) will have to be either on our (his) knees, or sit on the floor when we cook. We may as well just have a campfire going on in the middle of the living room in that case. Otherwise, it would have been such a great spot to be. We were joking that perhaps the landlords only rent the place out to those little jockeys.

Anyway, I'll keep y'all posted on how will it be like living in this place.
