I got a call yesterday from the transplant ward at the hospital to tell me that I needed to go pay some money! Well, it's a good sign that they want money from me, because that means they have successfully contacted a donor, this one being in China, and that they needed money to process the further blood testing.
So I ran up to the hospital yesterday and got some details on this. The nurse gave me some information on this bank in Beijing where I'm suppose to transfer money to, the amount is HKD $1,800. Once they get the money, then they'll coordinate a date/time for the donor to give another sample of his/her blood, the sample then will be sent to HK for further testing to see how well does it match mine. However, this bit of procedure could take up to 3 or 4 weeks, just to find out if this will be a good match for me, or not.
Well, as frustrating as it sounds, at least it's another step, right? Again, to quote my old boss Jane Campbell used to say (correctly this time), It's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick! :) So now we sit and wait some more! Who knows, maybe my Medicare may kick in by the time they tell me they're ready for me, and I'll get to go back to the US to get this done!
