More on NYC

So it's been a few days since I've updated our trip so far. We made it to Cape Cod now, Chatham, MA to be precise, and we've been experiencing a little trouble with the internet, hopefully it's a quick fix and we wouldn't have to mooch off of Tunji's aunt's Cranberry Inn as we're doing right now at their office! Hee heee hee...

Everything is so cute and lovely and tidy out here it doesn't seem real here. But I'm getting ahead of myself, so let's back track a bit and see what happened to us the last few days in NYC...

Once again, we woke up WAY too early for our own good, when is this jet lag gonna be over? Seems like the older I get, the harder it'd getting, ah well, can't escape it, so what do you do other than just press on, eh? To the small muffin shop across the way where they have the tastiest muffins ever to pick up bagel avec cream cheese, extra pastries for Lisa's roomies, and coffee. Soon, Tunji went to Kia's to finish building the bunk beds for the tuckies. Lisa got up around 10 and an hour later she had to go back to bed claiming a hangover. That party girl has been tamed I'm telling ya. 3 glasses of wine from the night before and she claims a hangover! She took the day off saying that she'll do something with me, but it's just as well 'cause I have some stuff I needed to catch up and do.

We were also meeting up with her mom, her aunt, and her grandma in the afternoon, they were flying through NY to go to Europe on a tour of Switzerland. Finally got ourselves ready and off we went to Queens, only got lost a little bit and found the little restaurant where were were to meet. Mood, it was called, in Kews Garden. Quite a nice little gem if you were in that area. Although I've known Lisa for many years and have met her mom Joanne and grandma, this was the first time meeting her auntie Lulu who lives in Washington state. Grandma W was hilarious, cracked me up so much, 92 and still jet setting, quoting TV commercials and totally "with it". Joanne looked to be doing well and healthy. A very nice little reunion and I had the good fortune to take part in it. Finally time to say goodbye as they have a plane to catch. Back we came and stopped at a wine shop and picked up 5 bottles, some of which were for Lisa's room mates as gifts from us.

Met up back at the flat, and since T hadn't eaten yet, so stopped nearby for him to have a bite. Soon after we went down to Joe's Pub at The Public theater to see Baye Kouyate from Mali. Much like Lasana from Junk Studios when Tunji was playing with him. But Baye Kouyate is more of a singer and a talking drum player. There was also the balafone, djembe, keys, bass and drums. They were fun to watch, but I could barely kept my eyes open. So at the end of the show, we all hopped into a cab and came home.

Slept in a bit till almost TEN!!! Tunji went to meet up with Mark and tuckies whereas Lisa and I went to explore HiLine. The HiLine is a very nice and interesting elevated and converted garden space from old freight rail tracks in the meat packing district. Link here: The High Line

Of course, if you know ANYTHING about anything, you would KNOW that the meat packing district is yet another hip and trendy neighborhood these days in NY where all the hip and cool and beautiful people go. And of course I didn't know that. So when we got there, I felt like I probably should go home and change my clothes and redo my hair or something...

Anyhow, we met up with HK Kate and Joe, they live out in Jersey City now. As short of a time as we had, it was really nice to catch up with them. Hopefully we'll still be able to see them when we go back to NY on our way back to HK.

Little Marie started to stir from her nap, and I think we were a little too enthusiastic in re-making her acquaintance right from her nap and scared her a little. She wasn't very happy. Wake the child, anger the child and now it's time for us to return the child to its mother and for us to run away! Ha!

Rain started to come down a lot harder now and we're giving up the idea of joining Tunji at the big BBQ. Headed back to Lisa's but got distracted and went for a low key massage in her neighborhood. It was nice and really needed that. Napped and woke about 7pm and went for Indian food in the E Village. Food was just so-so, but good fun to get Lisa all to ourselves! :) Met up with AJ, and their friends Eric and Greg. We were gonna go to this titled Rock n Roll variety show, but they apparently scouted it out before and felt that it was a bit sketchy and not worth going. We ended up going to the infamous Marz Bar, a legendary punk rock dive bar. Everything pretty much got gentrified around that area except this one bar. Still very much a dive bar and that's what they want to keep for the tourists, completes with perhaps one of the most stinkiest nasty toilets, and that's not a light statement coming from me, as I have seen, and used, some of the stinkiest and nasty toilets around, but this one was pretty much up there. Upside of the experience though, was that their jukebox has got one of the most eclectic selection of music, ranging from Barry White, to The Cramps, to Hank William III.

Little Joey and Tom showed up. With all the boyz around, of course they soon settled into their boyz talk. Funny, it reminded me of my earlier Chicago days when I hung out with all the boyz and only the boyz at that time of my life. So much so that when I met Tunji, I kinda just assumed that he was gay! Ha! Anyway, the bartender at the Marz Bar however, must have wondered, What in the world has happened to his bar!?
