Austin

Saturday, August 1, 2009

Going to Austin today, but by 2pm we were still here lounging and taking care of this and that. By 3, we were ready to go out there and conquer the world! Chris took us on a scenic route and drove through some hilly side roads and saw some older part of San Antonio, away from strip malls, all of a sudden, everything looked very Western, and actually quite pretty. We saw the most favorite past time the locals like to do... tubing down the river! Essentially, you rent a giant inner tube and sit in it and flow down the river. Some people would rent 2: 1 for yourself, and 1 for your beer cooler! Since it was a Saturday, and HOT!, there were a lot of people out tubing.

When driving passed some private ranch, we saw some antelopes and zebras! Yeah, Zebras! In Texas!

Chris took us to this restaurant called Oasis near Lake Travis. Talk about everything is bigger in TX! Oh MY! This place is gianormous! It's HUGE! With multi layered balconies. They can probably seat a thousand, and I ain't even exaggerating.

Anyway, there's a funny story goes with this location... After we parked the car and walked across the parking lot, we rounded a corner and saw these two long horns standing there:

And I thought, Oh, interesting, I'll go take a couple of pictures, while Tunji walked on. After we were done with dinner, we walked past these 2 long horns again, and Tunji made a comment, "They even brought in real manure!" And I thought he was being sarcastic and trying to be funny. One of the long horns moved around a bit, and Tunji exclaimed, "THEY ARE REAL!" And both Chris and I busted up laughing sooo hard!!! All this time, Tunji thought they were fake, and thought it was so cheesy that they would have something like that in the parking lot for the tourists to take pictures. He said he half expected me to just jump right on one of those "fake" bulls to have my picture taken! Oh, we laughed so hard...

Anyhow, Austin! We went to Continental Club and saw 3 bands. All in the rockabilly genre.

Another 2 piece outfit, The Jade Idol:

There were even a lot of old supped up cars out front:

Walked around the crazy 6th Street area, where they blocked off the streets on the weekends because it gets so many people who go party down there and get so crazy. Finally, time for us to headed back, and didn't get home till almost 4am. Poor Chris did all the driving.
